Weekly Photo Challenge : Beyond
What lies Beyond?
For my daughter
What lies beyond this young girl’s eyes?
What lies beyond her smile?
What lies beyond the moon and stars?
What lies beyond the sun?
¤
Questions never answered.
Answers never known.
Reasons never understood.
Equations never solved.
¤
Lifetimes without meanings.
Meanings without end.
Thoughts without significance.
Cause without effect.
¤
I’d give to you the moon and stars.
I’d give to you the sun.
I’d give you all the answers.
If only they were mine.
¤
Here is love and laughter.
Here is all my time.
Here are ears to listen.
Here are arms to hold.
¤
You will find your answers.
You will find your way.
You will find what lies beyond.
You’ll find it all someday.
¤
Inspiration
This post is in response to the WordPress weekly photo challenge. My daughter asked me what I was doing. I showed her the photos that I had prepared for this challenge. She told me that for her “Beyond” was “out there”. For her beyond, is space and time, things we can’t see. I asked her to choose a picture for me instead of using those I had selected. She chose this picture of her eye with something beyond it that we can’t quite make out.
What does ‘Beyond’ say to you?

Great picture and poem!
Thank you!
Very heartfelt words Kerry and an intriguing exploration of the many uncertainties in a young person’s world. I like the mother’s love filtering in through verses 4 and 5 and feel that the sense of resolution at the end of the piece works well. Also love the picture!
Thank you for your kind comments Karen. It looks like I managed to do what I set out to do then. This is praise indeed coming from a true poet such as you. Yes the picture is really lovely, butt hen I am biased
Very nice poem! Thank you for the pingback. :]
Thank you! You are welcome for the pingback.
Ah, children so much inspiration, and sometimes so b***y annoying.
I tried my hand at a poem once http://tomstronach.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/ode-to-julia-r-barrett-birthday-girl.html?m=1
Lovely touching poem. As soon as I read “There once was girl from Iowa” I knew it was going to be a winner.
Lovely poem and photo! And like her reasoning on choosing that picture.
I’m doing a weekly photo project too and find it can get the creative juices going.
Thank you Annuary. Where are you doing your weekly photo project, is it public? I had a look around your site but couldn’t find it.
I posted no mutant ants.
I will keep an eye on it.
What do we see in our children? What do we know of their dreams and aspirations.
This a truly heartfelt poem.
Thank you!!
When I look at my daughter I see my younger self. When I look in the mirror I see my mother.
Beautiful words to say to your daughter. I found your poem to be touching, heart warming, and full of love.
Thank you!
I don’t write poetry often.
